Bittersweet

I tried to think of a really great title for today, but after a lot of thinking the only word that really summed up today was bittersweet. Today was Ethan's first day of kindergarten. He turns 6 in a couple weeks, so he has been more than ready for a while. I am surprised he even went to sleep last night because he was so excited. He picked out all his clothes, decided on what he was going to take for lunch and got his backpack all packed up. He was ready. We got to the school a little early for the typical first day photos. I am sure we were quite the crew since we met up outside with Grandpa and Grandma and 2 cousins that were starting today too. Our whole crew of 12 started by dropping Ethan off at his class. I had been holding in the emotions since meet the teacher night and had continually told myself "no crying while in the school". Too bad I failed!! I just couldn't (and still can't) believe that my little boy is growing up. I am no longer the one he spends the most time with during the day. The only consolation I had was that I was not the only mom walking down the hall crying. After dropping Ethan off, it was so fun to go with my nieces. Rachael was a little sad to have mom and dad leave, but for Emma it was all old hat since she is a first grader this year. She was so excited and probably could have been dropped off at the door and been fine. I was not surprised to pick Ethan up and hear that he had a great day and can't wait to go back tomorrow! Tomorrow he wants to try hot lunch and can't wait to ride the bus.
THE BIG KINDERGARTNER

OUTSIDE THE SCHOOL

ETHAN AND HIS CUTE COUSINS ALL READY FOR THE FIRST DAY!

ETHAN AT HIS LOCKER. HE WAS SO EXCITED WHEN HE SAW HE HAD A LOCKER WITH HIS NAME ON IT!!

SITTING AT HIS TABLE ALL READY TO GO!

Just a side note for anyone who would like to know, our lives (Eric's especially) have just go busier as Eric was just sustained as the Elders Quorum president. It will be hard to have him gone more, but I know he will do a wonderful job and our family will be truly blessed.

what sweet pictures. They grow up so fast. I dropped off a 1st grader and my Matthew went to Kindergarten. I held it in while at the school and even while dropping off my 3yo for 1/2 day preschool. But once I was back in the car I cried the entire way home and all morning. It is so tough!

I cannot believe our kids are old enough for this!!! Ethan looks so cute on his first day of school. I am assuming you survived. We managed to, but I still have mixed emotions about this whole thing.

And as a total side note. Emily and Emery are getting too BIG too. Where is the pause button?!?!?
